Partly in desperation, I have made this photograph at night in order to make the picture a little more interesting visually. This building appears in several other shots as context but it is rather unremarkable and is awkwardly located for photography and it is also on the south side of the street which is often in shade.
Several of the other buildings in this block on the same side of the street seem of similar age which suggests that there may have been some fire/clearance at some juncture in the past.
Remarable detail for a night photo. Rich

Makes me think of a fifties painting. This shop has been closed for months now, as the owners couldn't compete with the big golf shops in the suburbs. I believe this was the last surviving outlet in the Chuck Brown's chain. The building's for sale.

Now it is a coffeehouse, called Umo (or Umi?) Cafe.

This corner location is now the Umi Cafe, a fair trade coffee house run by a young co-op group. They have enriched my neighbourhood. Not only is the coffee good, but they host live music events, frequently with a Latin flavour. The cafe attracts people of all ages. It is a wonderful improvement over golf merchandising.
