The Yang Sheng restaurant is open late and is a well loved student/bohemian kind of place that I have frequented for more than 30 years. The barbeque meat counter has its own entrance and gets a lot of traffic - it is also right beside the number 2 bus stop. There are only five barbeque counters in Chinatown - they are at the Kowloon Market, Wa Kiu, Mamphong, Double Happines BBQ and the Yang Sheng. This one is the oldest.
In the 1960's I used to ride the number 2 bus from the end of the line in Westboro all along Somerset St. to Bank. That was my transfer point to head south to Carleton University. The Yang Sheng was then the home of the lefty mover and shaker group The Company of Young Canadians.
Later when I had children and we visited the Westboro grandparents, they always wanted to drive home to Centretown on somerset St. to watch the changes in the neighbourhoods, one ethnic stripe aftr another. Justin, I understand why it is your favourite street.
