Listened with a great deal of interest to your conversation on CBC this morning. The squat apartment building sandwiched between the large house facing Lyon street and The Beer Store was the residence of Igor Gouzenko and his family in 1945-when he defected from the Soviet Union carrying startling secrets about Russia's spy operations in the free world. Later,in the 50's a Hollywood film depicting the defection with Dana Andrews as the star was shot on location on Somerset street. This was exciting stuff for us kids as we crossed Dundonald park on our way to grade school.
