click image to enlarge This building burned on April 6 2005, the same night as the terrible fire at the Mekong Grocery which can be seen here. People lost their homes, but no-one lost their life. The building was torn down recently.
The left image is at 651 Somerset on the east wall of the Shanghai restaurant. This place is very supportive of artists and is very popular with young people and students. The right image is a wonderful dragon on the east wall of 882 somerset.
Some of these pictures are old. The right image was shot several years ago with a pretty primitive (but expensive!) canon s20 digital camera. I am reshooting most of this stuff. The image on the right took a lot of work in photoshop to make it even remotely acceptable compared to what I can do with my current tool. Time marches on . . .
click image to enlarge This is an unusual display for this business - there are usually more racks out than this. The clothes are very inexpensive and made with quite fancy materials.
click image to enlarge The Nasa food centre is new. There was another Indian grocery store here which was burned out in a bad fire (no-one injured luckily.) This store is at the south east corner of Booth street which is one of the busiest intersections on the street. See another view showing the intersection on a nice hot summer night here.
This location is where the number 2 bus going downtown stops.
841 is the Pho Bo Ga 3 Vietnamese restaurant which stays open quite late. The vacant store was the Phu Hai Supermarket which closed after a very brief period in business. This street sees a lot of businesses that are short lived. The for rent signs say "call Angelo" which is also the name listed in many other shop windows on Somerset and Wellington street. Angelo is an important landlord in this part of the city.
